Panoramas

While I was on holiday over Christmas I finally had some time to play around with the camera on my new iPhone 5.  I was plesantly surprised I have to say.  I skipped the iPhone 4 and had a 3GS for a few years.  Happily the 5 is a considerable improvement.  8 megapixels and a flash make such a difference.  However, my new favourite thing is the panorama function - loving it!  I've been thinking about investing in a wide angle lens for my DSLR for those 'wow' holiday moments when you want to take in the whole scene, but as those are fairly few and far between I've been dragging my heels a bit.  A good call it seems, as the phone happily satisfies the need - for now at least!

The way it works is so easy and you don't even really need a super steady hand.  In the camera app, you select 'options', then 'panorama':

Then you swing round the scene, keeping the arrow as close to the line as you can:

Job done!

Here are a couple more of my favourites.  You can see in the beach shot that on the widest possible angle you get some distortion, but I kind of like the effect, it's different and interesting.
