Reading Terminal Market

Friday, 21 June 2013

Happy Friday everyone! To be honest there was a jet-lagged point when I thought we would never get to the end of the week, but finally we're here...

This time last week we were in Philadelphia, exploring the history of the city and discovering all the good things it has to offer.

Around lunchtime, we dropped by Reading Terminal Market ~ a hot tip from the kind lady in the City Hall information office. It's an indoor market sited in a former train terminal shed, hence the name...

What a great place! Full of delicious food and natural goods for sale...

A gallon of pickles anyone?

We were spoilt for choice when choosing somewhere for a bite to eat. In the end we decided on this creperie, where we could sit and watch our food being prepared.

The Amish are in town on Fridays ~ they bring in their produce from nearby Lancaster County, which we'd driven through the previous day. I really enjoyed watching fresh pretzels being made...

Later in the day we needed an ice-cream pitstop (as you do), so we popped back into the market. And boy do they do an impressive ice-cream there! Once again we forgot that everything in America is supersized...

I can definitely recommend Reading as a place to go if you're visiting Philly. There's plenty of buzz about the place and a really good choice of produce to look at and enjoy.

Can you recommend any other good city markets?
