Eating & Snapping in Shoreditch

Monday, 5 August 2013

On Sunday morning I headed east to meet up with a lovely group of ladies for some brunch and photography. I've been wanting to go along to one of Michelle's Eat & Snap Walk-Shops for a while now, and finally managed to clear a day this weekend.

We ate at Dishoom in Shoreditch ~ they have a special breakfast menu ~ my egg naan roll was delish and I washed it down with a warming chocolate chai. Om nom nom! Just the ticket for getting both brain and legs into gear before our photowalk...

Michelle gave us some pointers on using manual camera settings and composition rules, especially useful for moi, a self-confessed 'lazy manual user' with a tendency to flick on to 'P' just cos it's easier...

Dishoom is suitably stylish for this area of London, a great place to kick back on a lazy Sunday...

But no lazing around here for us... After we'd got our heads around the technical stuff we made our way over to Columbia Road flower market for some practical application of our craft.

The market runs every Sunday from 8am-3pm and is a glorious riot of floral happiness. The street is packed to bursting with people browsing, chatting, buying, you name it, it's going on...

So we clicked our cameras round to fully manual, took a deep breath and dived in...

So many gorgeous plants and flowers ~ I could have bought the lot...

Michelle was on hand to help us out with our aperture and shutter settings. It was great to be with a bunch of people who were all interested in the same thing as me, and were happy to take their time wandering, looking, shooting, enjoying...

It was the peonies that I really fell in love with at Columbia Road. They've always been a favourite flower of mine, so seeing them here in such glorious armfuls was a real joy... One thing was for sure, there was going to be a lightening of the purse before leaving this market!

I also enjoyed people watching as we made our way through the street...

A traditional East End Pearly King and Queen...

This stallholder insisted I took a picture of him and his dog!

There are plenty of places to stop for a drink or a bite to eat if you're in for some serious flower buying and need refreshment...

You see a lot of bunches of flowers and plants travelling up and down the street...

Some in more unusual ways than others!

It was a really enjoyable day, doing something I love, meeting new people and exploring a different part of the city. Plus, I did get to take home a cheeky bunch of my favourites!
