3 Favourite Juices & Smoothies

Tuesday, 13 May 2014

It's no secret that I'm a bit of a clean-living freak. Healthy food and exercise feature big in my week. I also love desserts and a good chunk of chocolate though, so don't worry it's not all kale and chia seeds in our household!

Today I'm sharing my top 3 healthy drinks.

I use a juicer or a blender depending on the recipe. Some people worry that a juicer will end up at the back of a cupboard and never get used. After our first machine packed up, we spent a lot of time researching before investing in a new one, and came up with a key features list based on our previous experience. Top of that list came 'easy to clean' and 'good waste pulp capacity'. We picked this one (still available to buy) and haven't looked back:

Here are the recipes of my 3 faves. Try them out and let me know what you think!

1. Long Life Lemonade

* lemon
* apple
* beetroot
* radish
* carrot

Full recipe & instructions here
2. Green Juice
* 5 kale leaves
* 1 large apple
* 1 lemon
* a sprig of mint
* 1 inch piece of ginger

3. Breakfast Smoothie
* 1 banana
* 1 pear
* a handful of fresh or frozen mixed berries
* 2 spoons of natural yogurt
* 1 spoon of bran
* 1 spoon of flaxseed
* a slosh of warm water

I've been having the green juice in the morning for a couple of weeks now and my skin is definitely starting to thank me for it. I'd like to get more into vegetable-based juices as I'm conscious that fruit stealthily ramps up your sugar intake, making your drink less healthy that you might like...
If you have any juicing suggestions for me, please leave them in the comments below!
