Springtime at Scotney Castle

Saturday, 10 May 2014

On the recent holiday weekend we took a day trip out of London down to Kent to visit Scotney Castle.

The 780 acre estate is owned and managed by the National Trust. There's a Victorian country mansion, a walled garden, and yes, a castle to explore!

It was pretty busy that day. Fairly normal you might think for a UK Bank Holiday, but once we started to explore we realised why. This...

The landscaped gardens are filled with rhododendron and azalea bushes, which are ablaze with colour throughout May and June each year.

So much loveliness in one place ~ even Mr DI was impressed!

I also enjoyed the gorgeous fresh green leaves that only last a few short weeks in springtime before they become darker as summer takes hold...

There are plenty of charming nooks and crannies to explore at Scotney. I especially loved the boathouse...

Loving this idea from the walled garden...

Scotney makes a great day out ~ there's lots to see and plenty of picnic-friendly spots. It's about an hour and a half's drive from London.
