Arches in Photography

Tuesday, 14 October 2014

If you're into photography then you're probably always on the lookout for shapes. In nature, at home, in the city ~ they're everywhere, just waiting for you and your camera.

One of my favourite shapes to hunt out when I'm on the move is the arch. There's something about curving architecture that is so beautiful and pleasing to the eye. Brilliant for practising your composition technique too!

I've had a dig through the archives and picked out a few of my favourite arch shots...

National Portrait Gallery, London

Denmark Hill Station, London

Church Cloisters, Helsingor, Denmark
Youghiogheny River, Ohiopyle, Pennsylvania, USA

Lisle-sur-Tarn, France

Ellis Island, New York

Guatavita, Colombia

Appuldurcombe House, Isle of Wight

Grand Central Station, New York

Which shapes are you naturally drawn to?
Do you look for a certain shape when you're out & about shooting?
