This weekend we had lovely weather so we threw together a picnic and took a road trip deeper into Kent to visit a couple of National Trust places, to make the most of our recently renewed membership.
Here are my 12 shots from the day:
1:: Pear & Vanilla Smoothie
What better way to start the day than in the sunny garden?!
2:: Jade
My beautiful girl, still with us ~ we're treasuring each day now...
3:: Picnic Basket
Dusted off & ready for its first outing of the summer!
4:: Chickpea, Tomato & Mango Salad
I tried out a new recipe to take with us for lunch.
5:: Quebec House
Our first stop: the childhood home of James Wolfe, known for his victory over the French at the Battle of Quebec in Canada in 1759. Gorgeous gardens here!
6:: Picnic Time!
The salad was delicious, eaten with rye bread, lemon & coriander hummus.
7:: Irises
The borders at Quebec House were to die for ~ a cottage-style ramble or purples, pinks & whites...
8:: This View
Next up: Emmetts Garden in nearby Idle Hill. I couldn't stop looking at this view!
9:: Hide & Seek in the Rhododendrons
The branches of the rhododendrons at Emmetts formed glorious cave-like hidey holes ~ this one had an amazing carpet of pink petals!
10:: Wild Strawberries
It's hard to tell from the picture, but these were the teeniest, cutest little strawberries you can imagine! The plants were rambling all over the place ~ the essence of summer...
11:: Chia Seeds
Back home and down to planning what to make with these chia seeds, my first time using them. In the end I went for a chia pudding with almond milk, maple syrup & cinnamon and popped it into the fridge to set overnight. Delicious served with blueberries for breakfast on Sunday morning!
12:: The Golden Hour
How this view has changed since we first moved in! It's now lush and green, with trees that are shot through with reds and oranges during the golden hour each evening before sunset. I'll never tire of this vista!
